Homeschool and Sailing: Win-Win

Homechooling your children is a natural extension of the cruising lifestyle. Being underway for long periods of time requires creativity when making sure their education continues to progress. Since attending school on a daily basis in not possible unless you will be docked at a marina for an extended period of time, what is the solution? Before we set sail, I plan on finding the answer for my three teenagers.

My Experience

As a current public school teacher, I realize that for each grade level, there are specific objectives (standards) that must be learned. Traveling for us means many of these objectives can be met in untraditional ways. From my research, tracking what students are learning is vital. Determining what is the best system for this rarely involves recreating the wheel, unless absolutely necessary. Ideally, I will cull the best tips, tricks, and resources from those who have gone before me and from my eight years as a teacher, then fill any holes by creating the rest.
